I am a guest at a wedding this weekend and the invite stipulated “formal attire”.

The couple are in their mid-20′s, are Catholic, and first there is a church thing and the reception is after (N.B. I haven’t been to a wedding in over 10 years, so i am quite green on these things!).

The wedding is a late afternoon wedding. It’s November here (Australia), so it tends to be a little warmer (but the weather is haywire, so it may be cold – weird weird Melbourne).

I have a lilac embroidered cocktail dress and strappy heels w/ a silk wrap. Is that suitable? …what do you suggest?
It’s a sleeves dress with a V-neck and lace at the back. I’m going to the tailor on Friday to cut it to a suitable length (it’s currently an evening gown – LONG length).

The jacket sounds like a good idea though.

Yes :S i might be stressing too much – but it IS difficult for a woman! My partner just bought a suit and done…
Oops – just spotted a typo…

Re: WeaselLuvr: The dress LOOKS formal, whether i’d shorten it or not. It didn’t say “black tie event”, just formal. Also it starts at 4.30 – reception to start at 6pm.
