do many wedding venues let you cater your own food?

im looking to keep my wedding costs to a minimum and had been thinking of having the ceremony and sit down meal with just a small amount of people and then having more the the reception in the evening while doing my own buffet for them? (id do it the day before/rope someone else into it!)
but im not sure how many venues would allow this?
i have not heard of people doing it before so unsure if everywhere will just have the option of their food or no food!
we have not been to look at any venues or anything yet..still trying to work out how much this is going to cost us first so if any of you have any money saving tips please do speak up! lol.
