I am in love with my girlfriend, we are going to get married. She is a christian and I am not. We both know and respect each others beliefs. To her, getting married in a church is quite important, and she plans to vow unto god etc. In my eyes, location is not that important and a church is just a very traditional and pleasant location to have a wedding.

My question is not whether i SHOULD get married in a church (i decided that a long time ago), but whether I am allowed to? This is taking into account that I will not lie about me beliefs, it is rude and disrespectful to do so in my eyes. I can not also make my vows to god as i do not believe in him and think that lieing during a vow invalidates the vow.

I plan to be open an honest about what i believe from the start and my girlfriend understands that. I think that it will depend on the priest. Some are very intolerant of anything other than word for word christians that believe things like genesis etc unquestioningly. but some are very free and easy going, preferring to live and teach a good christian life rather than cramming it down people’s throats.
