I have a fashion design background and know how to make clothes but I don’t feel confident making a wedding dress. However, I do feel confident designing one, and I know a great place in London to get really cheap fabric (Shepherd’s Bush) so can I take my design to a wedding dress maker and give her my own fabric to make it with? Would it save me money, and is it possible to do that?

Has anyone here ever had their wedding dress made and how much it costs? The one I have in mind is a silk satin sheath dress with a small train that’s kind of Jenny Packham 1930s in style. I think its quite simple, and I’d like to keep costs as low as possible!

Thanks
Well usually if you want a custom made dress they will have consultations with you about the design, but for what I want that part would be missed out. Also I have a pretty good idea what fabrics would work, but I would double check with her first.

I know all about the pattern cutting etc, what I am saying is that usually the designs and sketching and fabric sourcing are dealt with by the dressmaker, but I want to miss that out if that makes sense because I reckon they’d get the fabric from expensive places! Thanks
