My boyfriend and I been together for about 5 years and we will be getting married next summer, in our tradition the man has to propose to the girl’s family as well which he will be doing this July and part of the tradition he has to buy the girl gold, dress and pay for the engagement party. Now his finance are not very good and as he will be finishing his study in Jun and will start working after that. He asked me if he could borrow some money from me cause he hasn’t got enough money for all this, I said OK and gave him the money but I wasn’t too happy about it down down as I have given him money recently for a different matter.

He is a very good person and I love him but I still feel that if he loves me enough he should have waited and saved enough money and not rushed for this step.

Now the problem is, two days ago we were talking on the phone and got to the subject of wedding and i said how my dream wedding was to have an outdoor wedding (which is very expensive) and he started saying how we can’t afford it etc. which has upset me cause i wasn’t asking for one i just got carried away in the conversation and said it without thinking. So I got upset and said to him I’m not asking you for all this, can’t I at less dream about it isn’t it enough I’m being for my own gold and dress which you should pay for!

And that really shocked him, he never been this shocked before and he said how I was the one who wanted this to happen ASAP and how he wanted to wait and save up but then to please me he decided to do his best and speed things up. Now he said he will delay things to Sep until he his ready and got enough money so he won’t need anything from me!

I feel reaaaaaaaaally bad for what i said, I’m not that type of person I don’t know how it slipt of me. He is speaking to me differently now and I know he is hurt and shocked.

What can I do to fix things up, I always don’t seem to know what to say in such situations. I’m not good at explaining myself :S Please help
Thanks everyone for the great replies I found almost all useful. I did say sorry to him that time over the phone and he said not talk about it again cause there is nothing more I could say to make it better and just let time heal things. Now even though he said that I can still feel he changed and I should do something to make things better cause I don’t want to leave scares in the relationship.

Another info, this money is for the engagement party not the wedding, the wedding will be shared between us for sure. Even my family will pay towards it so no worries about that. This is the engagement that in our tradition he pays for! I’m going to meet it in a bit…wish me luck :S
